Description
A 16 Gauge Embossing Die Set consists of a “female” Magnesium Plate and a 0.95mm Photopolymer “male” Plate. These plates can then be sandwiched together with your substrate to create a sharp emboss/deboss.
Though a magnesium embossing set is slightly more expensive than a regular embossing using a polymer, there are many benefits of using a Magnesium Embossing Set. These include:
- The plates are more durable
- The Male plates can hold finer detail, creating a crisper finish
- The plates are easier to clean
Usually, we use Magnesium Plates as the female as they are hard and have sharp edges. This helps to create a crisp emboss when coupled with the 0.95mm Foil-backed Polymer.
Using a 1.63mm Magnesium as the female is the most cost-effective way to do this using a double magnesium embossing set. We normally etch around 1mm away which leaves a thin backing. Consequently, care must be taken to make sure the plate isn’t bent.
This printing technique is commonly known as “blind embossing or debossing” as it does not use any ink. Therefore, embossing die sets works well when used with a letterpress printing plate to create an inked and embossed effect.
We would normally make the female embossing plate 1pt larger to allow the male plate to fit perfectly and create an exceptional tactile finish. However, we can change the sizes to fit your requirements upon request. For example, thicker substrates may require a larger female plate.
